The Trager Approach, also known simply as Trager, is a form of bodywork and movement education developed by Dr. Milton Trager. It combines gentle, rhythmic touch and movement exercises to help release deep-seated physical and mental patterns of tension. The primary components of the Trager Approach include:
1. Table Work:
During a session, the practitioner uses gentle, rocking, and stretching movements to create a sense of ease and relaxation in the recipient’s body. The goal is to help the body experience lighter, freer movement and to release holding patterns that may cause pain or restriction. The recipient can choose to receive the work with or without clothing.
2. Mentastics:
Short for “mental gymnastics,” these are simple, playful movements that the client can do on their own. Mentastics help integrate the sense of ease and fluidity experienced during the table work into daily life. They encourage awareness and mindfulness of movement.
3. Psychophysical Integration:
This aspect focuses on the mind-body connection. Practitioners believe that mental and emotional patterns can be held in the body and that releasing physical tension can also help release emotional and mental stress. This holistic approach aims to create a state of mental clarity and physical ease.
Benefits of the Trager Approach:
– Improved range of motion
– Relief from chronic pain
– Enhanced physical and emotional well-being
– Increased body awareness
– Reduction in stress and anxiety
The Trager Approach is suitable for individuals of all ages and can be particularly beneficial for those dealing with chronic pain, physical limitations, or stress-related conditions.
I’ve completed the Level 1 Trager training and I can incorporate it’s techniques into my sessions or provide a stand alone Trager like session which would also include Thai rocking techniques I learned rom Shama Kern. – Randy
