Took ALL the pain away!

Took ALL the pain away!

Alicia Young

I was having a LOT of pain in my hip and leg for a few months it was keeping me awake at night and I was having a hard time sitting (at the movie theater I had to stand in the aisle) . I had been going to a chiropractor and had gotten several massages. My first time going to Randy took ALL the pain away! Randy is not only an extremely knowledagable and talented masseuse, he does “body work” where he targets problem areas like my hip or frozen shoulders etc. I live an hour away but I will regularly be making that trip because Randy helped me so much! I have a medical condition that affects my muscles (my doctors have given me a prescription for massages) and I have had 100’s of massages but none compare to Randy’s. If you are having pain or just want the best massage ever, I encourage you to call and make an appointment!

“What an incredible experience! His professional studio is in his gorgeous Apple Valley home, in an upscale gated community. His wife greeted me at the door and was so pleasant. His studio is extremely clean and the walls beautifully decorated with floor to ceiling photo of a Hawaiian jungle. His tools are extensive as is his library of resources. The table and room is heated perfectly, a great sound system playing the perfect spa music.

As a well seasoned massage receiver, I’ve never had any massage quite so powerful as Randy’s massage. After a lengthy discussion about my medical history and concerns, he customized a massage just for me, with a fully clothed Thai (stretching) massage, followed by a Lomi Lomi massage with oil. He gently used an impact gun and an electro simulator on my neck to release a knot that’s been there for decades, and dozens of therapists have failed to release. I felt the effects for days after, not only in my muscles, but in my overall mood.

Although Lomi Lomi style of massage requires you to be more uncovered than traditional massage, Randy is exceptionally professional and I never felt the least bit uncomfortable. Randy expertly navigates the art of both a clinical approach and personal bedside manner that a therapist must have to be effective at making their client feel comfortable enough to truly relax and surrender to the massage.

I’ve since returned multiple times, and finally booked the 2 hour massage I’ve always dreamed of. He spent the first half doing Thai (stretching) and the second half Lomi, and I’m telling you…. Save up the $140 and treat yourself. Those two hours will go by in a flash and Randy will have the time to truly do some incredible healing.”

I moved here from Washington state not too long ago. I was looking for my to go place for massage therapy and specially Thai massage. I tried different places before coming across Randy and nothing compares to his massage, professionalism and passion in helping people to feel better.
He target all my tight spots. He is pretty generous with time and prices are fair for the quality of his massages, He clearly loves what he does.

Randy@Rave Massage is amazing! I get massages on a regular basis because I have a tear in my shoulder, bulged discs and major neck issues. Each session I notice a lot of progress with the range of motion in my neck and shoulder that I do not normally have. Randy is an expert at understanding how the body works and explains it so well while listening to where you are experiencing pain. He combines different techniques that are so different than any other massage that I have received and I have had many. He has truly made such a positive difference with my pain and I’m so thankful for his help!

I highly recommend Randy.

I had the pleasure of winning a massage. What an Amazing Experience. I have a lot of health issues due to a car accident so I’m always worried about being touched but I had nothing to worry about. He was very knowledgeable and was able to set my mind at ease long before the massage started. I can not sing enough praises. It was one hell of an amazing experience. Uplifting mind, body and soul. I hobbled in and was able to walk out as so many of my injuries were addressed and handled during the session. I will be returning, and I highly recommend anyone reading this do as well.

Randy’s session was fantastic! The Thai massage compressions and stretches felt deeper than any massage I’ve had before. And the trigger point release work was powerful and liberating. The Lomi Lomi part of the massage was flowing and relaxing ending with hot steaming towels – a 5 star experience!

relief I could walk pain free again

Taline Bedelian

The day I found Randy, my back and neck pain had escalated to a whole new level. I was desperate to find someone that was able to grant me a same day appointment but every massage place I called either didn’t answer or told me to make an appointment for a different day. I have a very busy schedule and 2 kids on top of that so I usually can’t make time for an appointment. So when I get the opportunity to have some “me time”, I have to take it. I was so relieved when I found Randy’s website. Everything was clearly stated, from what kind of massage Randy does to services to pricing. I was even able to book a same day appointment right there on his website! It was so easy, all I had to do was show up on time. I knew Randy was professional (to an extent not usually seen in the high desert) when he emailed me a packet to fill out outfling my pain and treatment options prior to our visit. When we met in person, he spent a good amount time discussing the location and type of pain I had been experiencing. After that, he used his vast knowledge and expertise, to pinpoint exactly what was causing my pain and where it was coming from. He use a combination of techniques including Thai massage, Hawaiian massage, stretching, deep tissue, TENS unit, percussion massager, and more through the entire session. It was amazing! I left after the massage with so much relief I could walk pain free again. I already recommended Randy to my friends and family. I highly recommend Randy for any kind of work you need done on you body.

Thorough understanding of what it takes to repair a human body

Thorough understanding of what it takes to repair a human body

Paul Davies

Calling Randy a masseuse is underselling what he does. Calling him a doctor would be underselling him. His service is a complete and thorough understanding of what it takes to repair a human body the natural way. He diagnosed the source of my pain. He showed me diagrams of the muscles that were to blame. He stretched those muscles and massaged them out which completely erased the pain. Afterwards we discussed what I could do to achieve those results by myself and he sent me an e-mail with links to videos that demonstrated the stretches we discussed. This man is a healer with only pure intentions. More importantly, he’s effective. I came to Randy with hip and lower back pain and three sessions later, after following his instructions, I no longer felt the pain and was moving more freely. My Dr had blindly thrown medication at me at me but Randy took the time to listen patiently and work out what the real problem was. To me, it still seems like magic but he was able to read my muscles during the massage and as a result of his skill/knowledge I’m back to working out and living the athletic life I was so scared of losing. I can not overstate the value of this service and I 100% recommend him to anyone who is experiencing physical discomfort on any level. I also recommend him to anyone who just needs to un-wind because I am a very high stress person but I have always left his office feeling completely relaxed and at peace. It’s seriously some next-level physical therapy and it’s changed my life for the better. I am so grateful for this dude.

This masseuse is a national treasure. He’s pretty much an all-around genius when it comes to the human body. A full body massage at Rave Massage covers all the areas that are permitted in a paid massage session. This includes:

  • Arms and Hands
  • Legs and Feet
  • Chest (excluding the areola and nipple area)
  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Glutes (except the gluteal cleft)
  • Face and Scalp

Please note that genital areas are never included in our massages and will not be touched during your session.

Preparing for a massage session can enhance your overall experience and maximize its benefits. Here are some steps you can take to get the most out of your massage:

Review Your Choices: Review the Services page to learn about the various styles of massage available at Rave Massage. Perhaps review some of the videos to gather information on what to expect or to view samples of the work.

Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before your massage to ensure you’re well-hydrated. Hydration helps your muscles and tissues respond better to massage and can reduce post-massage soreness. If you are having any kind of muscle cramping night or day then add electrolytes to your hydration.

Avoid Heavy Meals: It’s a good idea not to eat a heavy meal right before your massage. A light snack is fine if you’re hungry, but a full stomach can be uncomfortable during the session.

Shower: Taking a shower before your massage is courteous to your therapist and ensures you’re clean and refreshed for the session. For Lomi Lomi please have smooth legs, if you have stubble we will be unable to perform the work.

Communicate: Before your massage, communicate your goals and preferences. Ask for what you want. Let me know if you have any specific areas of tension or if you’re seeking relaxation or pain relief. Also, inform me about any medical conditions or concerns you may have.

Clothing: Dress comfortably and in loose-fitting clothing to make it easier to undress for the massage. For massages done fully clothed please wear stretchable clothing like yoga attire.

Complete Intake Form: If it is your first visit, complete the intake form before arriving. It takes about 10-minutes to complete. Completing it before arrival ensures you get the full time allocated for your massage.

Arrive On Time: If you arrive a few minutes early, please come to the door early. If you are going to be more than 5 minutes late please text me. Being punctual ensures you get the full time allocated for your massage.

Relaxation: Use the time before your massage to unwind mentally. Turn off your phone or set it to silent mode to minimize distractions. Focus on your breathing and prepare to enjoy the experience fully.

Communicate Preferences: During the session, don’t hesitate to communicate and let me know if the pressure is too light or too firm, if you’re feeling too hot or cold, or if you have any discomfort.

Always ask for what you want. Randy

Your session experience is designed to ensure your utmost comfort and relaxation from start to finish. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what you can expect during your session:

Preparation: I take the time to prepare the treatment room 60-90 minutes before your session. This includes warming the massage table, adjusting the room temperature, preparing hot towels, heating the massage oil, starting the aromatherapy diffuser, and ensuring all your specific requests, such as bolsters, blankets, or fans, are in place. I also review any notes from your session history.

Greeting and Pre-Session Discussion: When you arrive, I’ll greet you at the front door and offer you the opportunity to use the restroom before we begin. Once in the treatment room with the door closed, we will have a discussion about your medical history, current issues, and your goals for the session. On your first visit we discuss draping and touch boundary levels. I will ask you to show me areas of your body that need special focus and any associated symptoms. Together, we will agree on a customized session plan.

Personalization: We’ll discuss your preferences, such as music or sounds during the session, and for evening sessions, lighting options like colored LED lights or candles. I’ll dim the lights when you’re facing the ceiling to enhance relaxation.

Fully Clothed Work: We’ll start with techniques that can be done fully clothed, like Thai massage, stretching, and some Clinical Bodywork. For fully clothed work please wear comfortable stretchy clothing such as yoga attire, and for Clinical Bodywork a woman should wear a sports bra that can be slipped off the shoulder.

Table Work: If table work is part of your session, I’ll prepare the table with oil. Before you undress, I’ll provide instructions on how to lay on the table and cover yourself with the sheet.

Table Work Dress Code: I’ll ask you to undress completely, removing all clothing, undergarments, accessories (bracelets, anklets, watches, necklaces, and large earrings). If you’re on your period, you may choose to leave undergarments on.

Privacy and Draping: I’ll knock before entering the room and, upon entering, will typically replace the sheet with a towel or towels covering private areas. Breast draping is optional, and I’ll ask about your preference if I’m unaware.

Oil Removal: At the end of the session, if oil was used, I usually have clients face up. I’ll remove the oil from your body using hot scented moist towels, ending at the face. Before the final hot towel, I’ll help you sit up so I can use a hot towel on your back. After a brief closing, I’ll let you know there are additional hot towels available for your use and that I’ll wait for you in the office next door. I’ll adjust the lighting if needed and exit the room, closing the door behind me.

Conclusion and Payment: When you’re ready, you’ll exit the treatment room and meet me in the office for payment and to schedule your next session. We may have a debrief of the session, and we might even go back into the room to discuss and practice self-care techniques.

Nighttime Escort: For evening sessions, I’ll escort you and remain out front until you’ve started your car for added safety.

If you have any questions feel free to ask using the contact form.

I’m dedicated to providing you with a personalized and comfortable massage experience, ensuring your needs and preferences are met every step of the way. Your well-being is my top priority, and I’m here to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have throughout your session. – Randy

For scheduling purposes allow for 30 minutes in addition to the service duration for the appointment.

When it comes to the duration of your massage session, I offer flexibility to cater to your unique needs and preferences. Here’s what you can expect in terms of session lengths:

Custom Session Lengths: I provide various options to ensure your massage experience is just right for you. Most of my clients opt for a 90-minute session, some choose an extended 120-minute session, and a few prefer a more concise 60-minute option. The choice is entirely yours and depends on what you’re looking to get out of your massage.

Benefits of Longer Sessions: Longer sessions offer the advantage of incorporating a wider array of massage techniques and styles. Most clients want a combination of deep work followed by relaxation massage or combine Thai massage followed by Lomi Lomi. This allows me to address multiple concerns and provide a more comprehensive relaxation experience.

Tailored Duration and Frequency: The frequency and duration of your massage sessions should align with your specific needs, budget, and how long you personally feel the benefits of the massage. I’m here to help you find the right balance that suits your individual circumstances.

A Relaxed Pace: Since I operate as a private studio, I prioritize your comfort and relaxation. There’s never any rush, ensuring you can fully unwind and savor your massage experience. I put a generous time gap between clients so it’s rare for you to even see another client.

Full Hourly Rate: Unlike some franchise massage locations that offer 50-minute sessions, my hourly rate covers a full 60 minutes of massage. I also don’t charge extra for consultation time before and after the session, the time spent on hot scented towel applications, or the time dedicated to teaching you self-care techniques.

Scheduling Recommendation: When scheduling your appointment, I recommend adding an additional 30 minutes to your calendar. This allows for any extra services or consultation time, guaranteeing a stress-free experience.

Conclusion: My goal is to provide you with a massage experience that is tailored to your specific preferences and needs, regardless of the session length you select. Your time and well-being are of utmost importance, and my approach reflects my dedication to delivering the highest quality of service and relaxation tailored just for you. Randy

How often you should get a massage depends on various factors, including your goals, physical condition, budget, and personal preference. Here are some general guidelines:

General Relaxation or Stress Reduction: For those who use massage to relax or reduce stress, a session every 2-4 weeks can be beneficial.

Chronic Pain or Specific Health Conditions: If you’re getting massage therapy to address chronic pain or a specific health condition, you might need sessions more frequently at first. This could be as often as 1-2 times per week until you see improvement, after which you can decrease the frequency.

Athletic Training or Physical Activities: Athletes or individuals involved in intensive physical training might benefit from a massage as often as once a week or even multiple times per week during periods of heavy training or events.

Injury Recovery: After an injury, especially one that’s being rehabilitated, massages can be beneficial in supporting recovery. The frequency would again depend on the nature and severity of the injury.

Maintenance or Preventive Care: Some people use massage as preventive care or to maintain good health. In such cases, getting a massage once a month can be helpful.

Budget and Time: Of course, how often you can get a massage might also depend on your budget and available time. Massage therapy can be an investment, so you’ll need to determine what’s sustainable for you.

Personal Preference: Some people simply enjoy the experience and feel better, regardless of the specific health benefits. If this is you, and you can afford it, you might choose to get massages as frequently as you like.

My most frequent client comes in every four days. – Randy

The ideal therapeutic massage pressure varies from person to person. It is highly subjective and depends on individual pain tolerance, specific muscle condition, and personal preference. I describe therapeutic massage pressure as a level that feels firm and gets your full attention, but you are able to breathe and relax into it without your muscles tensing up to guard against the pressure. I refer to it as a “hurts so good” level and call that a 7 on a 1-10 scale where 1 is very light pressure and 10 is extremely heavy pressure. The right pressure should lead to a feeling of relief and relaxation during and after the massage, not increased tension or pain.

Communication: I will ask for your feedback (“What number?”) during the massage to adjust my pressure to the optimal level. You can also proactively tell me when we reach a 7.
Purpose of Massage: Lighter pressure may be ideal for relaxation massage, although some people find deep tissue massage relaxing. You get to pick the pressure you want.

Changes in Time: I recommend starting with lighter pressure and increasing gradually to ensure comfort, especially if you are new to massage or have certain conditions that might affect your sensitivity to pressure. As you receive regular massage your muscles become conditioned and you are able to take deeper pressure.

Always speak up about your comfort level and any pain or discomfort during the session to ensure the best outcome. Randy

Absolutely! I understand that some clients may feel more comfortable with someone else in the room. However, to maintain a conducive environment for relaxation and effective treatment, I have a few guidelines:

    • The accompanying person(s), regardless of age, must not distract either myself or the client.
    • There should be no talking, interacting, excessive movement, or creating noise during the session.
    • The person(s) must stay in a section of the room I will designate so that they do not interfere with my movements. I normally provide a chair by the door, but they may be able to lie on a mat beneath the window if it is not in use.
    • If the person becomes a distraction, I may either end the session or kindly request that they wait in the living room or in the car.
    • You must have my approval in advance for children

You are welcome to bring someone with you if it makes you feel more comfortable – Randy

Be Genuine

  • Express your true feelings and thoughts
  • Embrace your authentic self in this safe space

Be Comfortable

  • Immediately adjust anything that makes you uncomfortable
  • Communicate any discomforts to me

Let Go

  • Release physical tension (e.g., gas, relax arms and legs)
  • Practice deep breathing for deeper relaxation
  • Feel free to express emotions

Freely Move

  • Reposition yourself as needed
  • Engage in movements like stretching or twisting, this is called unwinding
  • Feel free to interact with me for guidance or support

Ask for What You Want

  • Be open and direct with your requests (technique, pressure, etc.)
  • Use both verbal and non-verbal cues to communicate what you want, for example guiding my hands to where you want work
  • Everything is customizable – from the environment to the massage style

Do what you want

The session is all about you and what you want

  • Stay present or let your mind wander
  • Keep your eyes open or closed
  • Be playful or serious – whatever feels right

Talking

Feel free to talk, but silence may be best and therapeutic

Focus Areas

During the intake it’s best to show me areas you want to work on by touching your body there and explaining any symptoms.

Be Open to a Different Experience

Be open to different techniques as the session evolves. I will use what I feel and what you request to craft a unique session for you.

Confidentiality

Everything in the session stays confidential. I don’t share anything, and I ask that you do the same.

Following these guidelines will help you have a comfortable and personalized session. You may find that learning these skills such as “ask for what you want” can benefit you beyond the session. Randy

These cards are doorways. They invite you to see and experience life from a new perspective.

The healing power of intention is accessible to everyone and only requires that you make a commitment to focusing your mind, energy and words on what you want to achieve.

These Healing Intention Cards will support you to fully embrace your life in all its uniqueness and help you realign with your whole and healed state of being

Inspired by Hawaiian and Universal wisdom the cards focus on forgiveness, love, self-empowerment, compassion, peace, and authenticity.”

Stress Reduction: Massage therapy is a fantastic way to alleviate stress. It promotes relaxation by reducing the production of stress hormones like cortisol and increasing the release of feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine. A massage can provide a calming escape from life’s daily pressures.

Pain Relief: Massage therapy can target specific areas, helping to ease discomfort and improve mobility. It’s an effective, non-invasive method for addressing issues such as back pain, headaches, and sports injuries.

Improved Circulation: Massage can enhance blood flow, which benefits your overall health. Improved circulation delivers oxygen and nutrients to your cells while also aiding in the removal of waste products. This can contribute to better cardiovascular health and faster healing.

Enhanced Flexibility and Range of Motion: Regular massages can help increase your flexibility and range of motion. Whether you’re an athlete looking to improve performance or someone struggling with stiffness due to inactivity, massage can assist in keeping your body mobile and agile.

Immune System Boost: Did you know that massage therapy can bolster your immune system? By reducing stress and promoting relaxation, it helps your body fight off illnesses more effectively. This makes it a valuable addition to your wellness routine, especially during flu seasons.

Better Sleep: Struggling with insomnia or poor sleep quality? Massage therapy can promote better sleep by relaxing your body and mind. It can help you fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper, more restorative rest.

Mental Wellbeing: Massage isn’t just about physical health; it also benefits your mental health. It can alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, providing a sense of emotional balance and well-being.

Improved Posture: If you spend long hours at a desk or have poor posture habits, massage therapy can help. It can relieve muscle tension and correct imbalances, contributing to better posture and reduced discomfort.

Enhanced Skin Health: Certain massage techniques can improve skin health. By increasing blood flow to the skin’s surface, massage can promote a healthy, radiant complexion.

Personalized Experience: Every massage is tailored to your specific needs and preferences. Whether you prefer a gentle Swedish massage or a deep tissue massage, you can customize your experience to address your unique concerns and preferences.

Massage therapy offers a multitude of benefits, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It’s a holistic approach to health and relaxation that can be tailored to meet your individual needs. Whether you’re looking to alleviate stress, manage pain, improve flexibility, or simply indulge in some self-care, massage therapy has something to offer everyone. Sure, here’s my perspective on potential side effects or discomfort during or after a massage:

Soreness: It’s not unusual to feel some muscle soreness after a massage, especially if I used deep pressure or worked on specific areas with tension. This soreness usually feels similar to post-workout muscle soreness and typically fades away within a day or two. It often means that your body is responding positively to the massage and beginning to heal.

Bruising: In rare instances, you might notice minor bruising where I applied deep tissue work, or if your skin is particularly sensitive. While it’s not a big concern, these bruises should heal on their own over time. Sometimes there can be bruising if I use cupping therapy as it draws blood to the surface. However, I’m careful and don’t produce the type of marks I have seen from other practitioners.

Nausea or Dizziness: Occasionally, especially after a deep tissue massage or if you are not properly hydrated, you might feel temporarily nauseous or dizzy. Massage is known to drop blood pressure. Staying hydrated with proper electrolyte levels before and after the massage can help alleviate this sensation.

Emotional Release: It’s worth noting that massage can sometimes trigger emotional responses, such as crying or laughter. These emotional releases are considered natural and therapeutic, and I would encourage you to let them flow during the session. See also the service description for Myofascial Unwinding.

Allergic Reactions: If you have allergies to massage oils, lotions, or scents used during the session, you could experience skin irritation or an allergic reaction. To avoid this, make sure to inform me of any known allergies.

Increased Urination: After a massage, you might find you urinate more frequently. This is because massage helps eliminate toxins from muscles and tissues.

Fatigue: Occasionally, you may feel unusually tired after a massage, especially if it was profoundly relaxing. It’s a sign that your body is in a healing state, and getting a good night’s sleep usually helps you recover.

I will limit a session duration or use reduced pressure if I’m aware of a medical condition you have that might result in excessive fatigue from massage. – Randy

Temporary Discomfort: During the massage itself, you may experience moments of discomfort or even brief pain, especially if I’m targeting knots or tight muscles. Communicating openly with me about your comfort level is crucial, as I can adjust my technique to ensure a more comfortable experience.

Conclusion: Keep in mind that these potential side effects are typically mild and short-lived. If you ever experience severe or persistent discomfort, it’s essential to reach out to me or a healthcare provider for guidance. Communication with me about your preferences, comfort, and any pre-existing conditions ensures a safe and enjoyable massage experience.

Massage therapy is generally safe for most people, but there are some considerations to keep in mind:

Medical Conditions: It’s crucial to inform me about any existing medical conditions or health concerns you may have, or any changes in your health since the last session. Certain conditions, such as deep vein thrombosis, severe osteoporosis, skin infections, or open wounds, may require modifications to the massage or even contraindicate it. Always consult with your healthcare provider before getting a massage if you have any doubts about its safety for your specific condition.

Pregnancy: While many pregnant individuals can benefit from prenatal massage, it’s essential to seek out a massage therapist who specializes in prenatal massage. They will have the necessary training and equipment to ensure your comfort and safety during the session.

I don’t normally provide prenatal massage services unless you are already a regular client. However, I can connect you with local therapists that I can vouch for provide quality prenatal service; so contact me if you need a referral.- Randy

Recent Surgeries or Injuries: If you’ve recently undergone surgery or have specific injuries, it’s crucial to consult with your healthcare provider before scheduling a massage. I can adjust the techniques used to accommodate your needs and promote healing.

Allergies or Sensitivities: If you have allergies or sensitivities to massage oils, lotions, or scents used during the session, make sure to communicate this so I can choose suitable products to avoid any adverse reactions.

Medications: Some medications may affect your sensitivity to touch or make you more prone to bruising. Inform me about any medications you’re taking so I can adapt the massage accordingly.

Comfort Level: Open communication is key. Please share your comfort levels and any concerns throughout the session. If any technique or applied pressure feels off, or causes discomfort, inform me right away so adjustments can be made. Your well-being is my priority. Whenever you feel or recognize a particular need, don’t hesitate to voice it. Whatever it may be, I’m here to address it promptly.

Conclusion: In most cases, massage therapy can provide numerous benefits and is safe for the majority of people. However, individual circumstances vary, so it’s essential to have an open dialogue with me as your massage therapist and, when necessary, consult with your healthcare provider to ensure that massage therapy is safe and suitable for your specific situation.

Not normally although I would for a regular client. I can recommend a therapist if you are looking for prenatal massage. Randy

While I am a solo practitioner and cannot provide simultaneous massages for couples, I do offer back-to-back sessions. Some of my clients choose to stay in the room while their partner or friend receives their massage, and I am completely comfortable with that arrangement. – Randy

Tipping for massage is customary and is a way to express appreciation for services. Here are some guidelines to help you determine how much to tip:

Standard Tipping: In the United States, it’s customary to tip massage therapists between 15% to 20% of the total session cost. This is a common practice to acknowledge their skill and effort in providing a relaxing and beneficial experience.

Consider the Quality of Service: If your therapist went above and beyond or provided exceptional service, you might want to tip on the higher end of the range, closer to 20%. Conversely, if you felt the service was average, you can tip around 15%.

Pre-discount Amount: If you received a special offer, package deal, or a discount on your session, consider basing your tip on the full, non-discounted price to reflect the therapist’s standard rate.

Cash is Preferred: Therapists prefer tips in cash, as it’s more immediate and convenient for them.

Use Your Discretion: While these guidelines offer a general framework, the decision to tip ultimately depends on your satisfaction and financial situation. If you received excellent service and can afford it, a generous tip is appreciated.

Express Gratitude: Along with your tip, a simple thank-you or verbal acknowledgment of your therapist’s work can go a long way in showing your appreciation.

Non-Monetary Tips: If you’re unable to leave a monetary tip, your support can also come in other meaningful ways. Consider leaving a positive online review or referring friends and family to my practice. These gestures go a long way in supporting and promoting my business.

Tokens of Appreciation: In 2023, I was generously gifted with nerds, butterscotch brandy, vagus nerve serum, a variety of chocolates, essential oils, enlightening books, and many warm hugs and a few cherished kisses. To all my wonderful clients, from the bottom of my heart: Thank you. I truly love and appreciate each one of you.- Randy

Conclusion: Remember that tipping is a way to recognize and reward the skill and effort of your massage therapist. It’s entirely voluntary, and the amount can be adjusted based on your judgment of the service quality. Ultimately, your comfort and satisfaction are the most important factors when deciding whether and how much to tip.

In California, an “LMT” stands for a Licensed Massage Therapist. An LMT is a professional who has completed the necessary education, training, and licensing requirements to legally practice massage therapy in the state.

Here’s a breakdown of what an LMT in California typically entails:

Education: To become an LMT in California, individuals must first complete a comprehensive massage therapy education program from a state-approved school or institution. These programs typically include coursework in anatomy, physiology, massage techniques, ethics, and hands-on training in massage therapy.

National Testing: In previous years therapists were required to take and pass a national exam such as the MBLEX. In 2023, this is not currently a requirement, However, I have taken and passed the national MBLEX exam anyway.

Licensing: Licensing is optional in California, but having a state license for massage exempts a therapist from needing to meet the requirements of local jurisdictions. After completing their education, individuals must meet all the other requirements of the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC). The CAMTC is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing and regulating massage therapy in California. It ensures that massage therapists meet specific standards of competence and professionalism. Licensing must be renewed every two years.

Background Check: As part of the licensing process, applicants undergo an FBI background check to ensure they have no criminal history or misconduct that could pose a risk to clients.

Continuing Education: Licensed Massage Therapists in California are not currently required to engage in ongoing education and training to maintain and renew their licenses.

In my opinion not requiring continuing education contributes to poor quality massage therapists in California. For more than a decade I did all the massage therapist hiring for a major spa with 30+ full time therapists. I can tell you that very few therapists know their anatomy and many need supplemental training. I regularly attend continuing education, and stay current with the latest developments in the field. – Randy

Scope of Practice: LMTs in California are trained to provide a wide range of massage techniques to address various health and wellness concerns.

Ethical Standards: LMTs in California adhere to a strict code of ethics that includes maintaining client confidentiality, ensuring client comfort and safety, and providing professional and respectful care.

Client Well-Being: Licensed Massage Therapists prioritize the health and well-being of their clients. They assess clients’ needs, create treatment plans, and apply appropriate massage techniques to address specific concerns, such as pain relief, stress reduction, relaxation, and improved mobility

In summary, an LMT in California is a licensed professional who has undergone education, training, and certification to provide safe and effective massage therapy services. These professionals play a valuable role in promoting overall health and well-being for their clients through the practice of massage therapy.
