Experience authentic Northern Style Thai Massage from an expert.
Thai massage origins can be traced back over 2,500 years to the “Father Doctor” Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha who was a trusted physician of the Buddha, making it one of the world’s oldest healing modalities. Thai massage combines acupressure, energy work, and assisted yoga postures, and it is designed to promote relaxation, balance, and overall well-being.
Northern style Thai massage, also known as “Nuad Boran” is a traditional form of therapeutic bodywork that originates from the northern regions of Thailand, particularly from the Chiang Mai area. This Folk style of Thai massage is distinct from other forms of Thai massage, such as the Royal Southern style from the Bangkok area. Northern Style emulates the cultures and people of Northern Thailand – laid back and gentle and a key difference of Northern Style is the use of the feet to apply pressure to the body.
For Thai Massage you wear your own comfortable stretchy clothes and receive bodywork on a comfortable mat on the floor, or on a massage table. It can be gentle while going deep. Trained in the Northern style, I know how to skillfully employ my feet to administer deep, sustained pressure. I harness the power of my entire body using feet, knees, elbows, forearms, palms, and thumbs to perform therapeutic work. I combine acupressure, stretches, and movement techniques in my extensive repertoire.
Key Features of Northern Style Thai Massage
Emphasis on stretching and acupressure: Like other forms of Thai massage, Northern style massage involves a combination of stretching and acupressure techniques. Practitioners use their hands, fingers, elbows, knees, and feet to apply pressure on specific energy lines (Sen lines) and acupressure points in the body.
Clothes-on massage: In Northern style Thai massage, the recipient typically remains fully clothed, wearing loose and comfortable clothing.
Focus on energy lines: Practitioners of Northern style Thai massage place a strong emphasis on working with the body’s energy lines (Sen lines) to promote balance and well-being. By stimulating and clearing these energy pathways, it is believed that the body’s natural healing abilities are enhanced.
Firm pressure: Northern style Thai massage is often characterized by a firmer pressure compared to other styles of Thai massage, which some recipients may find more intense and therapeutic.
Overall, Northern style Thai massage is known for its therapeutic and revitalizing effects on the body, promoting relaxation, flexibility, and energy flow. Like all forms of Thai massage, it aims to restore balance and harmony to the body’s physical and energetic systems.
